Family protection in an AURA white label app: a couple looking at a phone, beside app screens showing people on a map and help requested

How family protection works in the AURA white label app

‍

Family protection lets app users see the people they care about on one map and request emergency help on their behalf. Here is how it works, and what your customers need to know.

‍

What's changed

‍

Family protection adds two things to the white label app:

  • Shared location. App users add the people they care about to a group. Anyone who enables tracking appears on the group's map, with their profile picture or initials and a battery indicator.
  • Help for someone else. Any member can request security or medical response for another member. AURA's 24/7 control centre handles the request and sends a vetted responder to that person's location.

Nobody appears on the map unless they have chosen to share their location, and they can stop sharing at any time.

‍

Three app screens: enabling tracking on the map, the People menu for adding and switching people, and help requested for a person

‍

How it works

‍

  1. Enable tracking. Select Enable Tracking on the map. Each person decides for themselves whether to share their location.
  2. Add your people. Open the People menu and select Add a person. They receive a request to join, and choose whether to share their location. Use Manage people to update the group.
  3. Switch to the person who needs help. Select them in the People menu. Their location and help buttons appear.
  4. Press and hold for help. Press and hold Security, or Medical where available. Help is requested at their location.
  5. Follow the response. Track the responder on their way and use Send a message to chat. The control centre calls you first, then the person you are getting help for.

‍

Things to know

‍

  • Location sharing relies on the phone's own location services. If a phone is off, or location is switched off, that person cannot be shown on the map.
  • Tracking is a manual switch. Each person turns it on or off themselves.
  • During a response, status updates are shown to the person who requested help and the person receiving it.
  • If more than one person in a group needs help at the same time, the control centre coordinates each response.
  • The primary user and 4 loved ones can join a group.
  • Family protection is available through any of the AURA white label apps.

FAQs

Can someone be tracked without their permission?
No. Each person chooses whether to share their location, and can switch it off at any time.
How is this different from sharing location from a phone?
Phone location sharing shows where someone is. Family protection also lets you send professional security or medical response to them, handled by AURA's 24/7 control centre.
Who does the control centre call?
You first, as the person who requested help, and then the person you are getting help for.
Can we offer family protection through our API integration?
Not currently. Family protection is built into the white label app. Your account manager can talk you through the options.
